Ms. Ripley went from laughing her tuckus off to grinning from ear to ear, “Y’mean it, Mr. Cassius? I can… Oh, boy, this’ll be the bee-knees!”
She hadn’t killed in quite a while and even though she left Marian’s apartment looking like a set from a horror film, knocking off someone somewhat important was going to be much more amusing then bums off the street. Bums sure wore fancy clothes these days, though; maybe Vera was just out of the fashion loop, not that she gave a shit.
“Oh babe, this’s gonna be nifty watchin’ you screamin’ for your momma,” she said between gritted teeth, “Maybe I’ll send you in a Chicago overcoat to your honey, or better yet, in a demon stew.” She hoisted her gun back up with some effort, leaning the gun on her hip, and expertly checking the rounds before taking aim right at Dago’s head.

Dago wasn’t overly threatened by a gun, machine gun or not. He stood his ground and waved over a couple of the Morningstar Children to stand in front of him, much like a meat shield and that is exactly what he thought of it. Being an ex-mage didn’t afford him much sympathy for fellow demons, especially not these ugly abominations.
“Try it, try and tell them to go away, or gun them down,” Dago challenged, looking Mr. Cassius in the eye, before looking at Ms. Ripley’s gun, “I’m faster than you, if not stronger.”
He wasn’t ruffled by the insults about running back to Marian. If he got himself killed, it’d be for Lilith and Natalie, nothing to do with Marian. Dago hadn’t even gotten a chance to go back up to the surface to tell Marian the good news and even take him on a little field trip to visit a ‘dear’ friend.

Mr. Cassius' eyes widened when the Morning Star Children stepped right in front of Dago like they were his bitches or something. What the fuck. What the fucking fuck. They weren't supposed to do that at all. They were supposed to follow orders, not go around helping enemies. His lips curled into a snarl and he glowered at the Morning Star Children.
"Get outta the way," he growled, dropping his amusement like a potato fresh out of the oven. "Unless you wanna deal with us and the boss later on." What the hell was going on here? New decorations, Morning Star Children helping Marian Havas' little boy toy out. . It was almost like someone else had taken over around here.
Felix didn't like that thought. It was. . Disconcerting. There was no way that anyone had offed the boss, no way! It was Lucifer, the King of Pride and the son of the big boss himself.

The Morningstar children were shifting uncomfortably while Mr. Cassius was ordering them around. They didn’t fully move, but a few of them glanced furtively at Dago, looking for some kind of direction or affirmation that they should listen. Of course, they knew who Mr. Cassius and Ms. Ripley were and normally, threat of the boss was a very real and very effective threat, in any other circumstance, they would have disappeared with their tails between their legs, figuratively only for some.
Dago had crossed his arms and was staring at the pair of pride demons with a smirk and a challenge to tell him he was wrong again, “Last chance to leave,” he said, sounding rather smug.
Their reactions were very amusing, considering he was telling the truth when he said someone else was in charge. These assholes were hopefully going to just back down and bow out, as Dago didn’t know if Natalie could boss these guys around the same way she did the Morningstar children.

Ms. Ripley shut her mouth with a snap as the Morningstar children arranged themselves in front of Dago, resembling a rather tempting looking wall of meat targets. She narrowed her heavily made-up eyes at Dago, standing smugly behind the hulking masses of abomination. This guy was going to be made into bacon for her breakfast tomorrow. She lifted her gun again, resting it on her hip, “Get your ugly mug outta my way before I squirt metal,” she said to the nearest Morningstar child, poking him with the barrel of the gun in the chest.
The demon looked terrified, but glanced at Dago, who gave him no instruction otherwise. He stood stock still, look of horror plastered on his warped features.
“You thugs got a count to three, since I’m feeling nice,” she said again, not sounding nice at all, “One.”
She shot the first Morningstar child right in the chest, grinning again when it hit the floor, “Whoops, slippery fingers.”

Mr. Cassius' eyes narrowed when the Morning Star Children didn't budge. Was this some sort of trick? Glamour? But the Morning Star Children didn't seem enamoured or entranced by the vampire. Hrm. . Besides, normally, a threat of the boss laying the smack down on them would be enough to get them to run off screaming. But they weren't. Which could only mean one thing, and that made Felix's stomach sink to the floor.
"Vera," he said sharply, using Ms. Ripley's first name, putting a hand on her shoulder and pulling her back. "Let's blow this joint. I gotta have a chat with ya." It was true, of course- Mr. Cassius didn't tell lies. He needed to explain what was going on, but like hell he was going to admit that Dago was telling the truth in front of the man. That would be too humiliating, and Mr. Cassius was a pride demon, after all.

Vera looked over at Mr. Cassius when he laid a hand on her shoulder. She scowled when he said they should go, feeling more than a little cock blocked now that she’d had taste of first blood. She didn’t catch why this was an issue, she just knew there was an obstacle in the way of a particularly annoying pansy she wanted to bump off as soon as fucking possible.
“You wanna flap your gums you can do it right here, Felix,” she grumbled, sounding like a whining child who didn’t want to leave. The use of his first name was almost used as an insult.
She wasn’t the easiest to deal with after the carnage started, but she knew somewhere that Mr. Cassius was right. They were a duo for a reason, after all; she was perfectly aware that he couldn’t lie, just as much as she didn’t like to tell the truth, most times.

Mr. Cassius' eye twitched a little when Ms. Ripley called him by his first name. Sure, he had started it, but that was because she was getting out of control. His frown deepened and he looked at her as though he were speaking with a disobedient child. "We're leaving," he said shortly. "Right now."
He didn't like how Vera was acting and disrespecting him in front of those bubs, but he supposed he could yell at her about that later. Right now they needed to get out of there before Lilith showed up. He didn't want to stick around when there was a new King of Pride hanging around, and besides, if they did, the boss might see that as a sign of disloyalty. No, no, they had to get the hell out of there.
Of course, he couldn't explain it like that to Vera, not with Dago and the Morning Star children around.

Vera’s eyes narrowed at the row of Morningstar children, picking out which one of the stubborn cowards she was going to pick off next. She straightened up a little when Mr. Cassius started to nearly scold her. She glanced over her shoulder to look at her taller partner with an insolent eyebrow raise. The deal was that she did all the dirty work and he did all the thinking; she seriously considered breaking that unspoken rule between them to spill every bit of blood in this room.
She reluctantly lowered her gun and huffily picked up her violin case, “FINE,” she seethed, attempting to put the gun back where it belonged with one hand that was already occupied by a gun.
As disappointing as not killing was, she knew there was probably a very good reason they were retreating like dogs. That didn’t make her any happier about it, though.

Once they left the Pride Circle and were a significant distance away from the boss' former kingdom, Mr. Cassius figured it was now an okay time to explain to Vera what had just happened. After all, he was the brains of the group and she was its brawn. He was irritated that it had taken her so long to listen to him, but he was irritated with quite a few things.
"The punk wasn't lyin'," Felix explained, frowning. "The boss is gone. He ain't been bumped off- no one could bump off the boss- but he ain't the one sittin' on the throne around there." The Morning Star children hadn't moved, not even at the threat of Lucifer. Considering what type of person Lucifer was. . Mr. Cassius found it difficult to doubt Dago was lying, really. If Lucifer were in charge, the Morning Star children would know not to cross the paths of his personal assassins.
