Selene cautiously knocked on Marian’s office door. She had been working on something ever since Haven left. It made her a bit cross that Haven had left without so much as saying goodbye, but if she had to leave, she had to leave. It wasn’t really Selene’s place to judge it or not.
She held a small black flashlight in her hand. She had a conversation with one of the new mages, she recalled her name was Mischa and talked to her about the fact that mages had a weakness to whatever demon that inhabited the circle of hell they were guilty of. Mischa had commented that the Chao Xi had partners to counteract any possible weaknesses a singular person might have.
It got Selene thinking what a mage would do if they encountered their weakness. She didn’t think just dying was an option, so she started to research her way through that. She was pretty sure she came up with something that, if successful, would be one of the better inventions she’d made.

Marian was sitting at his desk, like normal, reading a book from the Library. He had been reading about Upstairs lately, just because of that little 'game' he had played with Lucifer. He couldn't find the answers to any of the questions Lucifer had asked, though. Maybe he would ask Hanniel, although he only knew how to summon demons, not angels. Hmm. .
There was a knock on the door, and his head jerked up. "Come in," he said, closing his book and pushing it to the side of his desk. He'd been reading a lot since becoming Head of the Order. It was something to do during his downtime, after all, that and playing piano. There wasn't much else. When he'd been a student, he had been studying and then practicing law, but now his job was Head of the Order, not prosecuting attorney. Of course, he still trained his students- That was important.

Selene’s track record with Marian wasn’t exactly good, but she needed this favor from him. She wanted to test her gadget. She had a theory about it, but it wasn’t tested yet; the only person she knew who could summon was Marian. Of course, considering their history, she’d test it herself to make Marian feel a bit more comfortable about helping her.
She opened up the door and shut it behind her. She saw the stack of books on Marian’s desk, he must be doing a lot of research as well. She hadn’t been in his office since she’d tried to weasel his immortality out of him. That hadn’t been successful, but that didn’t matter right now.
“Hello, Marian,” she said, standing in front of his desk instead of sitting down, “I have a favor to ask of you.”
She was hoping he was willing to help her, considering she was doing this to help mages in the field, which wasn’t her.

"Oh, hello Selene," Marian said. He was a bit suspicious, but he tried not to let it show. The last time she had been in here, she had tried to get him to admit he was immortal, something he absolutely refused to do. Oh well, he would see what the favour was, first, and then tell her his answer.
As long as she wasn't going to experiment on him, he would probably be alright with it.
"What's the favour?" Marian asked, raising his eyebrows. He hoped it was something reasonable. Being experimented on again didn't sound like fun. He'd managed to avoid the final thing that Selene had wanted to test on him at the old Library only because Haven resurfaced. Haven was her own person in her own body again, so Marian couldn't hope for that.
Luckily, Marian was a much more powerful mage than Selene, especially now, so he didn't have to worry.

She held up the small flashlight she was holding and turned it around so Marian could see the seven buttons on it. They were all color coded so they stuck out very clearly on the black flashlight.
“I wanted to test something on some demons,” she said, “You’re the only one I know of who can summon them, so I need your help.”
That final machine she had built from Haven’s journal was burned down now. It was probably nothing but a pile of melted metal and plastic now. It had been successful; she was sure, but never got to test it. Better for Marian, not so good for Selene.
“It’s basically a stun gun,” she said, “It has different magics in it, so it should help when a mage is fighting against a demon they have a weakness against.”
She pressed the red button and the flashlight flicked on, “It’s harmless against people, but the flash should stun the demon for long enough to get away.”
This one was a prototype, she wanted the finished product to only have one button and stun all demons, for the sake of passive mages.

Marian blinked. If this thing worked, he wanted one. He wondered if it worked against very powerful demons, like Lucifer. He doubted it, but it would at least be useful if he ran into Ms. Ripley and Mr. Cassius again. He could stun them and run off, and they would have to be subject to Lucifer's wrath. It was an evil thought, but then again, Felix and Vera were eviler than that thought.
"You're not going to test it with me, of course," he said, frowning. He was the strongest mage right now, and there wasn't really any of his students he really trusted with this job. Granted, he knew that they were capable of handling basic pride demons, but he didn't want to leave them or himself completely helpless. When he was training his students, he made sure to not summon pride demons for that very reason- He knew they were capable, but just in case.

Selene didn’t think a simple flash would distract a stronger demon, but she supposed it would stun them all the same, even if for a shorter time. It just depended on the magic she put into it.
“No, of course, not,” she said, stonily, “I’ve made this one for myself, so it won’t work on the same demons it would for you.”
The best part about this little device was that it didn’t require any magic from the user, just the maker. That way, even non-magical people would be protected if they used it, but that meant that Selene’s magic was still weak against wrath demons. She needed more magic and volunteers to make it stronger.
“I need some demons to test it on,” she requested, “And if at all possible, six students who are guilty of different sins, but don’t worry about wrath. The flash won’t work on wrath demons right now, but if I have all different types of magic in it, it should work against all demons.”

Marian nodded. "That, I can do," he said. What a coincidence, he had six new students. Too bad two of them were guilty of Lust. He'd have Fatima do the experiment anyway. Hans was busy learning to control his ice magic, and Marian understood how important that was- Although, Hans was getting much, much better at it.
"I'll have five students for you," Marian said. "I don't have a student guilty of Gluttony, but Zed is guilty of Gluttony, so he'll work." Whether or not Zed wanted to take part in this experiment, Marian didn't care. This was important, very important. As long as he had this, he could stun any pride demons who Lucifer had sent to bother him.
He couldn't help but get a smug smirk on his face. This would piss Lucifer off. He ignored how a pissed off Lucifer would eventually be very bad for him. He wasn't going to die, after all.
