Yasuo walked past the stairs to the basement to get to the infirmary from the portal hallway. He had just come back from visiting Haru in the Seidhrfolk, trying to get a feel for how he was. His brother felt strangely bigger than him now and had even gone so far as to cut his hair much shorter to be more useful in combat. Tori seemed well, too, but she hadn’t changed quite so much as Haru had. He was still kind of a goofball, but Yasuo felt them becoming distant now.
He was lost in thought as he walked by the basement stairs. He stopped when he realized the door to the basement was wide open. That wasn’t right. Yasuo moved over and shut the door. He swore he saw something dart past the corner of his eye. He shrugged it off and moved toward the infirmary again, stopping when he stepped on something. He bent down to pick it up and realized it was a monocle. He peered at it and then stuck it in his pocket to figure out whose it was, later.

Madeleine had been on her way to Montreal. She needed to go shopping. She didn't particularly like shopping, but she needed a new jacket. It was wintertime, after all, and despite being in the Library she sometimes liked to go into the outside world. She really did like visiting her mom, after all. She missed her family sometimes, and she was determined to visit them sometime soon.
Madeleine was walking through the portal hall when she saw Yasuo standing there, looking through a monocle. Maybe he'd just bought it? Still, though, it didn't look like something Yasuo would own- not that she knew him very well- and he was looking at it curiously.
Well, she might as well ask him about it, because now she wanted to know what it was, dammit!
"Hey, Yasuo," Madeleine said, stopping to speak to the medic. She smiled at him warmly. He was kind of hyperactive, but he was nice to talk to, at least.

Yasuo’s head shot up when he was addressed, “Oh hi!” he said brightly, not figuring Madeleine saw the weird piece of glass he picked up. He hadn’t been trying to hide it or anything, but the thought of being watched when he didn’t know it betrayed his desire to be sneakier. He’d done a decent job of getting Dominic to like him enough to cover for him, but the getting to and from the Order was the more difficult part about staying out of trouble. Not that he was an expert on staying out of trouble or anything, it was just that Marian was a whole lot scarier than Penny or Makoto had been. Marian was even scarier than Mischa on a really bad day.
“Whatcha up to, Maddy?” he asked, rocking back on his heels. He thought her full name was too long, so he stuck to Maddy, even if she didn’t like it much. He didn't remember her saying otherwise, but that meant absolutely nothing.

"Not much; I was gonna go to Montreal to get myself a new winter coat," Madeleine answered. "My old one is falling apart." She realized that Yasuo must have put the monocle in his pocket. Well, she might as well ask him about it.
"I didn't know you wore monocles," Madeleine said, trying to bring it up casually and not seem accusing or too nosy or something. That wasn't how you found out things! Truthfully, she did enjoy Yasuo's company, so she wasn't only talking to him to find out more about the monocle. That was just an added bonus.
Madeleine wasn't a spy for Marian, thankfully for Yasuo. In fact, she didn't even realize he was shirking his duties. She didn't really care much, to be honest, although she probably would have cared were she ill or injured. Luckily, she was neither.
She could definitely see why someone would find Marian scary, though. He was kind of. . Intimidating, and pretty weird.

“Oh! I love coats, I hope you find a good one,” Yasuo said cheerily.
He’d actually bought a bright yellow coat the other day, but living in a place that was mostly climate controlled defeated the purpose of having one, usually. Oh well, he had a cute coat now, just in case. He had a lot of articles of clothing like that, ‘just in case.’
“Monocles?” he asked, confused, “OH, is that what this is?” he pulled the piece of glass out of his pocket and held it up. “I didn’t know what it was, but it seemed like it was part of something, maybe someone’s glasses?”
He didn’t think it was a monocle, but if he had, he might not have pocketed it. It wasn’t as though he planned on keeping it, but because it seemed broken, he thought someone wouldn’t have been looking for it. It made sense in his head, though he really sucked at trying to explain his actions.

Madeleine smiled. "Thanks," she said. Madeleine felt like there was a purpose in having a nice winter coat- If she had to go somewhere cold for whatever reason, she would be prepared instead of freezing her ass off. It was a good thing, being prepared, Madeleine thought. And that was why she'd always had a zombie invasion plan, just in case.
When Yasuo held up the piece of glass, Madeleine inspected it and then nodded. "Yeah, it's a monocle," she said. "You know, like glasses, except only covering one eye instead of two." Monocles always reminded her of Mr. Peanut and the Monopoly Man for some reason. Maybe that wasn't such a good thing.
She frowned. "Who in here wears monocles, though?" she wondered aloud. It was kind of sketchy, that there would just be a monocle lying around. "Shit," she muttered. "I hope there isn't an intruder in here." That. . Wouldn't be good news.

Yasuo probably would have been the first person who would have gladly listened to Madeleine’s zombie plan with great interest and enthusiasm. He thought a lot about being a spy or a ninja, but didn’t really think about things like that! If he did, he’d probably have already bought a cricket bat and a shotgun…
“Oh, I see,” Yasuo said, staring down at the little piece of glass, “That’s kind of weird! If one eye can’t see, why wouldn’t the other not see?”
Yasuo blinked a couple of times. He knew plenty of people in the Order who wore glasses, but he didn’t think anyone wore a monocle. He would have remembered them for wearing such a strange eye piece. Yasuo’s eyes widened when Maddy talked about an intruder. He clapped his hand over his mouth.
“Ohmigawd, do you think so?” he said between his fingers, “We should tell someone!”

Madeleine shrugged. "I dunno," she said. "Some people have differences in how well each eye can see. My lenses have different strengths, for example," she added. Oh, glasses, how she disliked them. No, it wasn't the glasses she disliked, it was the bad vision. The glasses themselves were cute, although she wished she didn't need them. Having bad vision was a pain in the ass.
At least she wasn't the only person at the Order with glasses; that was a relief.
Madeleine shrugged. "I hope not," she said. "We should go talk to Marian about it, though, before we jump to any conclusions." Still, she didn't realize that Yasuo was shirking his duties, and also that he was really afraid of Marian. The latter would make sense to her, though- Again, he was kind of creepy, just sitting in his office all day long doing god knows what. Madeleine had rarely seen him outside of there.

Yasuo nodded, a bit reluctantly, “You’re right, just in case something dastardly is going on here,” he said in a mock serious voice.
He really didn’t want to, but if Maddy was right, he had to or he’d be in bigger trouble later. They could potentially save the day, after all and that sounded way to exciting for Yasuo to even think about passing up. He gripped the monocle and started walking toward Marian’s office.
The basement door opened up just as Yasuo began to walk. Dago walked out, stretching his fingers like they were unfamiliar to him. He stiffly looked around and spotted Madeleine and Yasuo. He opened his mouth and then shut it again before speaking. He suddenly seemed more like himself, sure and confident.
“Hey, what’s going on?” he asked with a Dago-like smile.
“Oh, I’m just going to tell Marian about this thing I found,” Yasuo said, holding up the monocle.
Dago’s eyes widened in recognition, “Oh, that’s mine, I must have dropped it,” he said hastily.

Madeleine walked with Yasuo towards Marian's office. They were passing by the basement when she saw Dago exit. He was acting a little weird, but she didn't question it. Dago had always been kind of weird anyway, just like Marian. He'd always just hovered around Marian and sometimes disappeared for a few hours. It was kind of weird. Still, though, he had been the one to find Vida, and he had trained Yasuo a bit, right? So maybe he wasn't so bad.
Still, though, he was really mysterious and kind of creepy.
Madeleine raised her eyebrows when Dago said that the monocle was his. It wasn't that she doubted it was or anything, but she thought it was weird that he owned a monocle. It didn't look like the kind of thing he'd own- It was too. . Antique looking. Besides, she'd never seen him wear it before.
"Really?" Madeleine asked Dago, surprised. "I didn't know you wore a monocle."
