“Well, good,” Lilith said, “I was hoping you could help me work out the finer details.”
She smiled weakly at Natalie, always knowing that was why she was her right-hand woman. Natalie was intelligent beyond measure in Lilith’s mind and that was why she had come to her for help with this project.
“Well, what do you think of our new recruit? I have an idea of how to make him prove himself, but I wanted your opinion first,” she said, running a hand through her long hair.
She was glad for another in her little army. She knew that she might have to train Renee herself and was glad to give Natalie someone that she’d probably feel more comfortable with. Though, knowing those that are guilty of lust; that may change very, very quickly and then Natalie would have a handful of annoyance on her plate. Better annoyed than angry, right?

Natalie raised her eyebrows. "Like what?" she asked. Natalie could probably think of a few details Lilith would have trouble with, but she thought it might be better to see what they were first instead of jumping to conclusions. After all, jumping to conclusions was a rather foolish thing to do. It tended to be almost always, really.
"He's a 'good person,' I think," Natalie said slowly. "He cares about his fellow mages, at least, and that's more than I can say about most mages. He's better off with us than in the second circle, and it would be wise to have another former mage as a vampire around." Natalie couldn't pick up on Dago's feelings, but she had heard him ask about the 'others,' who Natalie presumed was the Order.
Most, if not all, of the mages Natalie had known were paranoid backstabbing bastards. Then again, that wasn't to say Natalie hadn't once been one of them as well.

“Oh, Natalie, I know nothing about matters of battle and war, anything in that vein would be extremely helpful,” she admitted, “Besides, I really need Renee to be useful somewhat to me and cooperative because I have a hunch she’ll be more powerful down here because she’s still alive.”
Lilith sighed and pressed her hand to her forehead. The next few years were going to be tough for her and Natalie, even for Dago and Renee as well.
“Did you ask him the type of magic he used when he was alive?” Lilith asked suddenly, “And you are right, having him on our side is mutually beneficial.”
She just hoped that he was more like Natalie and less like… say Dimitri Archer.
“If his sin is lust, I was thinking of asking him to be celibate or something for a time,” Lilith said, thinking aloud, “Or maybe just be forced into fidelity because if he truly is guilty of lust, abstaining completely might make him go mad.”
She laughed a little bit at the thought.

Well, Natalie had thought it would have something to do with war. Luckily, she did know a bit about that. Having been alive in a time of war tended to help with that. Besides, she was also Lilith's lieutenant, and so if she didn't know anything about war, who would? Natalie had a feeling that this type of war would be far less like the ones that had gone on during her lifetime, though.
Natalie frowned. "I have a feeling Renee dislikes me," she said. After all, Renee had said some rather rude things to her. One didn't need to be a genius to figure that out. "I'm not sure how I could get her to work with me. . Maybe you could talk with her?" It might work; Renee did seem to like Lilith.
"I knew I was forgetting something," Natalie muttered, shaking her head. "No, I forgot to. I can ask him later, though, I suppose. And besides, if he does go back to the Order, then we might actually gain some allies. . They're probably the faction that is most likely to help us." Of course, Natalie and Lilith would have to be careful with friends like those, but still. They would need all the help they could get if they were fighting a civil war in Hell.
Natalie blinked. "That seems like a good idea, actually. You could allow him to choose either, and have him stick with it. But you're right, fidelity might work best if his sin is lust," she said.

Lilith knew that she could trust Natalie with this important and secret information. She knew she wouldn’t go blabbing all over hell, either. This was the relationship they had and she was just as eternally grateful for it.
“I’m not surprised,” said Lilith, “She strikes me as a girl who can be pretty prickly. I will have a word with her, don’t worry. If it won’t be that, I’ll train her myself, but you’d do a much better job.”
Lilith shook her head, “It’s fine, you’ll be spending a lot of time with him, I’m sure, so it will come up eventually. Not that it makes a lot of a change for anything; once he died his magic was gone.”
Having allies that were mages could be beneficial and dangerous. She wasn’t in any danger against mages, but Natalie and the rest of her court definitely were. She cared very much about everyone in her little corner of hell; she didn’t want anything happening to them.
“I’ll look into his prior life and see what I can find,” she said, “Maybe I’ll make it more difficult and pick someone for him, it is about proving himself to me, after all.”

Natalie smiled. "Thank you," she said. The compliment had been nice, but Natalie was also grateful that Lilith would talk to Renee. It was imperative that this girl listened and wasn't insubordinate. The plan was dangerous and risky, and the stakes were high. If they failed. . Well, it wouldn't be pretty. Renee had to learn to take orders and not be so damn insolent.
"True," Natalie said, although she did make a mental note to ask Dago later what kind of mage he had been. She didn't know much about him, really, but she supposed that would have to change soon if she was going to be spending a lot of time with him.
Natalie thought it was a shame that magic died along with its user. It probably would have been very useful for Lilith's plan. Oh well, there was no use lamenting over what could have been.
Natalie nodded. "That's a good idea," she said. Hopefully, Dago would prove to be a loyal subject.

“Of course,” said Lilith and meant it. Figuring out what Renee’s problem with Natalie was shouldn’t be difficult, fixing it and remedying the situation permanently was the near-impossible part.
Lilith knew that it would be important for Natalie to know more about this new man, even about his now useless magic. Lilith had high hopes for the rest of this little operation. Things were changing a bit now that she had a good candidate for a vampire. So many of them died too quickly, but if Natalie was any indication, he should at least last a bit longer than normal mortals.
“I agree,” said Lilith, “Things are looking quite smooth sailing for us.”
She knew better than to trust rosy pathways with nary an obstacle in sight, so she’d just have to watch out for that hidden pitfall trap before she waltzed right onto it. This was something she truly wanted to accomplish. She couldn’t afford to make hasty mistakes.
